Support Equipment Systems Engineer
OVERVIEW
This position performs SE&I V&V of hardware systems. Position includes coordinating with the subsystems development lead engineers and design engineers ensuring the hardware and design meet the SLS performance needs. Position entails coordination and solidification of requirements, clearly identifying the design drivers, and working with designers providing SLS hardware insight/oversight duties. Position works closely with lead verification and validation systems engineers, assisting in planning, documentation, and execution of GSE development and SE&I, including but not limited to, proof of concepts, and verification and validation. This position performs a part of the Level II/III NASA/Contractor Team, and will perform as an SE&I Engineer for hardware Design, Development, Test and Evaluation (DDT&E) activities.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- The selected applicant may travel to NASA and contractor facilities as required to support, reviews, meetings, TIMs, conferences, etc.
- Work closely with NASA Government counterparts, Government prime contractor personnel, and multiple engineering disciplines.
Qualifications:
Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) field from an ABET accredited institution. Typically, educational requirements are the equivalent of a Ph.D., a Masters with at least 2 years, or BS with at least 6 years of relevant experience.
Required:
- Minimum 5 years relevant NASA or aerospace applicable experience.
- Experience applying Systems Engineering methods and skills to complex programs.
- Familiarity with Verification and Validation approaches, methodology and document implementation.
- Critical thinking, effective communications, and problem solving skills.
- Excellent oral, written, interpersonal, customer relations and presentation skills.
- Microsoft Office Suite competence (Word, Office, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
Desired (presence of one or more of these qualifications will be used as discriminating factors in selecting applicants):
- Experience with systems engineering and integration of ground and/or flight hardware.
- Experience in requirements formulation, assessment, verification, and validation.
- Ground operations experience for Space Shuttle, International Space Station (ISS), or Expendable Launch Vehicle (ELV) programs.
- Experience in Launch Vehicle Ground Support Equipment (GSE) requirements, implementation, and/or manufacturing.
- NASA/Contractor environment familiarity.
- Knowledge of NASA space craft, launch vehicles, space launch operations, and flow processes.
- Experience with requirements management tools; systems engineering tools; product Development, Design, Test and Evaluation, Engineering Document Management Systems, and unique databases during system development.
Proof of U.S. Citizenship is required.
